This was taken by my [amazing] girlfriend Carlie. Location: her aunt and uncle’s house in Palmetto, Florida. Her family spends Christmas there every year, and this year I flew down the day after Christmas.

After sleeping until 11, I woke up and took a shower. I was a little stressed about the fact that today was the big day: my audition for a theatre scholarship at AU. I have really wanted, since day 1, to be a double major . Well, i finally decided to go for it. It will take me an extra semester in the long run, but I think it’s worth it to do it now rather than regret it in the future.

My audition ended up going great. I had to do two monologues – I chose one from the play Harvey and one from a short play called The Man Who Couldn’t Dance, about a man who can’t dance . I should have results on the scholarship within the next few weeks.

And then I spent the rest of the day with my love. We went to the Color Clay Cafe and made a tile for Carlie’s room. It was a purple, blue and green depiction of a starry night, since we’ve been looking at the stars a lot recently. Then, we went downtown, and ate at our usual Downtown Greenville spot, Barley’s. Calzones there are GREAT, in case I haven’t mentioned it before.

Before we departed on our whole Greenville date night excursion, we made a playlist in iTunes called “The Narlie List”. We alternated picking songs for the list, which we turned into a CD, to listen to in the car on the way to Greenville. Here’s the list!

6 :: I spent most of June traveling. Kicking off the month was a trip with my family to New York for two days, followed by a cruise to the Caribbean. Two days after we got home, I left for Portland with CYT Anderson’s Improv Team. This year, we were the Squawk Squad (playing off of Taylor Davis’ Tourette’s). This was my second year at the CYT Improvathon and we had an awesome time. We were eliminated early, but overall we felt like we performed better than last year. The competition was way more intense. It was extremely relaxing and exhilarating at the same time.

5 :: Carlie and I have been dating for 3+ months. It seems like a lot longer (not in a bad way; we have been “talking” since March, after all!). I am so in love with her. I don’t know what else to say, other than I am so extremely happy and thankful for the huge difference she has made and will keep making in my life.

4 :: Started my sophomore year of college. I’m almost positive at this point that I am going to change to a double major between Graphic Design and Theatre. It would take an extra semester and consume all of my elective hours, but I am positive that it is humanly possible. I know that if I don’t take this opportunity while I have it, I will regret it for the rest of my life. It is way easier to spend one extra semester now than to have to go back to college later in life. Now, I just I have to convince my parents!

3 :: Titanic at ACT. This one really merits its own post, but let me give you the quick summary here. While I was off traveling, Robb held auditions for Titanic the musical. When I came back, I went to a rehearsal and was immediately thrown into the show. I had never heard of the Broadway musical Titanic, but it has become one of my top 5 favorite musicals of all time. The experience of being in the show was extraordinary. I didn’t think it could get much better than Beauty and the Beast, but Titanic blew me away. The true-to-life story and crazy score are just inspiring. It was by far the best show I’ve ever been in and the best show that has ever been in Anderson. I’m not blowing smoke when I say we had one of the most talented ensemble casts ever. Not to mention we had a two-story ship that sank, dropping 6+ feet on one side, and a grand piano that slid across the ship during the finale every night.

2 :: Auditioned for Fiddler on the Roof at school. For a few weeks there, I shuffled between Fiddler and Titanic rehearsals. Fiddler is another one of my favorite musicals and I couldn’t pass up the chance to audition. It was definitely a spur of the moment decision. The show opens in under two weeks – running October 22-24 at Anderson University’s Henderson Auditorium.
